What we collect
WasThatBefore collects minimal data to make the game work. When you play a puzzle, we store an anonymous session identifier (generated randomly in your browser) along with your score and number of attempts. This lets us show score distributions and percentiles. We do not collect your name, email address, or any other personal information.
Local storage
Your streak, play history, and theme preference are stored locally in your browser using localStorage. This data never leaves your device and is not sent to our servers.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics to understand how people use the site - things like page views, which puzzles are popular, and what devices people play on. Google Analytics uses cookies. You can opt out by using a browser extension or disabling cookies.
Cookies
WasThatBefore itself does not set any cookies. Google Analytics may set cookies as described above. No advertising or tracking cookies are used.
Third parties
The site is hosted on Vercel. Puzzle data is stored in Supabase (PostgreSQL). Neither service receives personal information about you beyond standard server logs (IP address, user agent).
Children
WasThatBefore is a general-audience game. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
